Akali Phula Singh was the Jathedar of the Akaal Takhat Sahib, during the Sikh Raj he commanded an elite force of Khalsa warriors. Although a critic of Maharaja Ranjit Singh he dedicated his life to the presevation of the Sikh Raj.
Ranjit Singh’s policies had allowed outsiders to become politically active in the Sikh Raj, something that The Guru had instructed against. Akali Phula Singh heavily opposed outsider interference in Sikh affairs and on a number of occasions attacked the Imperialist foreigners.
He warned Ranjit Singh that these same forces would be the ones to take his Kingdom. However Ranjit Singh had difficulty reverting back as he had given too much power to those conspiring with the British led by personal greed.
With Imperialism wearing the modern day mask of Globalisation and having sikhs working for the driving forces of neoliberalism, through the nexus of states, corporations and financial
institutions. Are we contributing to our enslavement?? Would the Khalsa of the past approve of ‘the ways of the world’ that the sikhs have opted to adopt? ਜਬ ਲੱਗ ਖਾਲਸਾ ਰਹੇ ਨਿਆਰਾ । ਤਬ ਲੱਗ ਤੇਜ ਦੀਓ ਮੈਂ ਸਾਰਾ ।। ਜਬ ਇਹ ਗਏ ਬਿਪ੍ਰਨ ਕੀ ਰੀਤ । ਮੈਂ ਨ ਕਰੋਂ ਇਨ ਕੀ ਪ੍ਰਤੀਤ ।।
